How my dry eyes are 2 years on...

Hello! Well it's been over 2 years since I wrote my last post. At the time my dryness was being exacerbated by working on a laptop for a few hours a day. I was also just beginning to lose eyebrow hair (I know - weird).

I thought it might be interesting for some of you to hear how my dry eyes have progressed since then. Firstly a number of things have changed. I stopped working for a start (for various reasons) which I guess temporarily helped my eyes. Overall though, my eyes have worsened. Last year I experienced a couple of months of severe dryness. My main symptoms were pain, extreme sensitivity to the sun and of course more severe grittiness, soreness, closing of eyelids. I also had a few episodes of eye infections (conjunctivitis). After a few weeks of trying to manage my symptoms on my own I asked my GP for a referral back to the ophthalmologist.

It had been about 6 years since I had been to the hospital for my dry eyes (which they treated by closing my punctal ducts). By now I felt desperate and tired of this condition. Anyway, as it happened things were about to get worse. My first appointment was at a general eye clinic (not the hospital). However about 2 days before this my right eye had been more painful than usual and bloodshot. When I looked closely at my eye I noticed a grey spot on my iris. This scared me and I immediately phoned up the clinic and asked to be seen sooner. They booked me in on the same day.

When the doctor examined me, to my shock he said the grey spot was a corneal ulcer and needed immediate treatment... (tbc).
